Regardless of what type of dancer you are, you can always prosper from the various ways of learning how to dance. From instructional videos (we recommend SalsaDanceDVD or The Dance Store) to clubs, classes, and beyond. Don’t miss another day…
Learn some new salsa dance steps ASAP. As. Soon. As. Possible.
Why? Because the benefits to dance are vast and incredible. From social benefits (new friends, new flames, and new nights filled with fun and friends) to health and confidence benefits, the rewards to dancing are far reaching and they do run deep. Peoples’ lives have been changed. Many people I know have gained a new lease on life, gotten healthier, felt more comfortable around new people, and best of all- gotten a chance to meet their match. I’m talking about romance!
Attending a salsa class can give you practice with real people and exposure to professional instructors. Watching salsa videos can give you the chance to move at your own pace. And going to the clubs helps keep you in touch with the spontanteous and vibrant character of salsa dancing, not to mention the people.
So get out there and dance!

http://addicted2salsa.com/2006/06/05/salsa-dance-16-the-submarine-boop-combo/ Well, this is a funny one I think. The name of this combo was given by our videographer because every time I taught the combo I would make a ‘boop’ sound similar to that one on the radars in submarines. If you would like to do the ‘boop’ sound, it is done on the counts of 1 and 5. I usually use this combo to give me more time to think what move/combo I will be doing next – so basically I use it to stall.

I'm learning Miami style and women step back with the right foot. Then I took a New York Salsa class and I was taught to step back with my left foot. If a guy ask me to dance how will I know what style will he dance?
You don't know for sure what style a guy will dance until you dance with hikm. If you are in New York you can expect NY2 probably.
You can always ask, of course. But if you just are relaxed and wait for him to take the first step you'll feel which direction he's going.
In all salsa except for NY2 the dance starts with the right foot back for the woman, like you learned in Miami. Here are some videos showing the main salsa dance styles.

LA Style (on1):

CUban style salsa (Casino) On1:
the most important difference between Casino and other salsa styles is that is is danced in a rotational pattern constantly moving in a circle, while other salsa styles are danced in a straight line back and forth (in-the-slot)
